RI4ALL Responsible Innovation with and for ALL

Public & Patient Engagement

Patient and public engagement and involvement (PPEI) encompasses different disciplines ranging from psychology, sociology, ethics, cultural sciences and economics (i.e. impact assessment of activities). Involving citizens and patients in research projects means making research accountable to society.

PPEI ensures a co-creation process throughout the project, mapping the trajectory towards impacting on the results that matter most to end-users and beneficiaries of research.

PPEI contributes to “design with the end in mind”

towards greater acceptance and effectiveness of the proposed solutions.

RI4all ensures to engage patients along R&I projects, alternating and combining different strategies, mixing qualitative and quantitative methods, and relying on scientific guidelines, frameworks and models.

RI4all acts as a liaison between science and society and ensures that people’s needs are at the heart of the project from the early development to implementation and dissemination of results.

"Experiential knowledge may create a significant epistemological shift by tapping into worlds of knowledge that are still underdeveloped in health‐based research. Proximity to individuals who may openly share experiential knowledge may create empathy and compassion, which in turn may motivate researchers to better prioritize the needs of patients in their work."
